I have the opportunity to buy a large amount of Calcite sand for my reef tank (500 lbs). The sand is live with all the organisms etc.... from the research I've done calcite is just a harder form of aragonite, does anyone know anything about calcite sand? is it reef safe etc....
From what I can tell it has all the same properties as aragonite, just a harder form of calcium carbonate, which is what aragonite is. I just have never heard of it, any insight into this would be helpful.

Calcite is safe to use but is not as water soluable as aragonite / oolite.
You won't get the buffering affect or the elevated calicum levels with calcite like you would with aragonite / oolite.
