Title: 29 gallon biocube. First marine tank!
Post by: Ohioreefjr on June 03, 2013, 07:02:14
After growing up aroun saltwater for years with my father "ohioreef", I have seen him with his ups and downs. Although as many times as he kept saying he was going to tear it down he never did, and he never lost his full ambition for the hobby. After about three years of neglection, he finally decided to redo his tank. That inspired me.

I went to a flea market and picked up a 29 gallon coralife biocube. I got it for a steal too. What they claimed to be used was basically brand new. I now have it at my apartment in Wilmington beginning its cycling.

He brought the tank home this weekend to show me. I would bet money it's never been used, or someone did one heck of a cleaning job on it!

We are using rubble in the center compartment, probably some chaeto eventually. We seeded it with some rock from my tank.

We need some thoughts on how to best cycle it.

If that was rock from your tank and it was kept under water during the transport it is likely already cycled. If you have some nitrates but no ammonia or nitrites your good to go.

The white pieces are "reef rock" from Jack's so it's not "live". The colored pieces are from my tank. They were underwater the whole time.

Here is an updated picture of what my tank looks like. It currently has two green chromis in it as well as a scarlet hermit crab. This morning when I got up, much to my suprise, I found two peanut worms residing in my tank. When I got back from work I also discovered a bristle worm crawling across my sand!!  Along with these I have also seen dozens of pods roaming around!!
