Title: Instant Ocean Salt
Post by: micki on July 08, 2006, 12:16:43
I'm going to be placing an order from Dr.'s Foster and Smith soon.  They have instant ocean 160 gallon buckets for $31.99.  They don't charge weight fees. If the order is $225.00 or more there is no shipping cost at all.  Anyone interested in going in on an order?

They have other things to order as well.

I can usually get almost 2 changes per bucket.  But if I start going to monthly changes one bucket would last me 2 months versus 1 month.  :)  I'm sure I'll get to the $225.00 on my own.  I just thought I would offer the free shipping to anyone else.

Did you already order?
Yes, but you didn't miss out on anything...  I called them as ask about frozen food shipping and she told me the free shipping was for live aquaria not the Dr.'s...  It didn't help that she was extremely rude to me!  UGH!!!

So you didn't get the free shipping?

So you didn't get the free shipping?

Nope that is only on fish and live things.  I read the add/e-mail to her it said sand and rock could not have free shipping. I said it doesn't say anything aobut salt or dry goods.  She said that's for live aquaria only. I told her salt is listed in there.  She said that's from the Dr.'s. we went back and forth and I finally said whatever...  So no free shipping, but they don'thave a weight fee any more.  It's been like that for a few years now.

Too bad, I was looking at getting some more.  Maybe even the Reef Crystals.  Anyone heard good or bad about them?

I haven't heard good or bad about the crystals, but for me I don't want to change mid stream.  You are just starting out so it might be a good time to try it.

1. some of thing things are bad and in the ocean and you dont want them
2. most of that is listed in ppb...parts per billion... most test kits can only read in millions
3.  to use ocean water you have to pump it in from way out at sea...the stuff close to shore is nasty bad

I've read in a salt comparison though I don't remember where that Reef Crystals provide extra measures of certain elements, but did not make a notable difference in the tank status during the test. As far a Instant Ocean Patsmart has the 160 gallon bucket for $31.99. They are located at 8281 Old Troy Pike, Huber Heights.

Hey Micki I know Jacks says they price match. It would be a whole lot closer of a drive. Just a thought.

I know they only have 1 or 2 out on the floor, but I think they have more in the back.

But, will Jack's price match to the internet? I believe the PetSmart price is internet pricing, not their normal in-store price. ( I could be mistaken, though)

I don't know and it will be a while before I have to find out. ;)
