has anyone ever done a 5 gallon water change everyday, i have a 125 and was thing about doing it to see what happens, i would not disturb the sand everyday but just a 5 gallon daily water change...any thoughts?

there are a few people on reefcentral that have a constant water change system setup. Not sure how much a day they actually change but they swear by it.

I know that Wall_Tank has a continuous water change system. Maybe he'll chime in.

I think 5 gallons per day is a bit much, What do you do per month today? I do about 6 liters a day on my 90gal system.
One peristaltic pump pushing clean water in, one pulling out the same amount. The litermeter III system is great for this, as you can calibrate the actual pump output, then your settings are the same. The Litermeter runs each pump every 150 times per day. So it's pretty continuous.
I initially did this for ease, and it was good while I traveled too, as the wife didn't have to do anything. With the extremely small transfers, I Don't have to worry about matching temp/ph/alk.

right now i only do about 25 gallons every 3-4 weeks, i have about 3-5 gallon evaporation everyday, that i have to top off.so i would need to account for the evaporation.

That seems about right. If you want to do daily, just divide that by 25 or so. So do 1 gallon per day. I depends on how your setup is.

Larrynews, when you say a water change your saying, pull out the water from tank and replace with new salt water correct.. I do 20 gallons every 2 weeks, as to adding water for evaporation i use 3 gallons a day.
Walltank. your auto fill, you say it takes water out of your tank and replaces it with.... fresh ro/di, or fresh ro/di saltwater??? curious

I keep a 30 gallon container of fresh saltwater that the pump pulls from.
My topoff of RO-DI water is done via a float valve, and gravity fed water.

I don't see why not. I do 25-35G a week. Have been for about a year now.

my monthly cleanings i siphon the sand, just the front since that is all i can reach, but the daily i would only do water not the sand

Doing 5 gallons a day would work but not worth the effort. Doing a single 20g change a week will get more dirty water out vs doing 7 weekly changes at 5g a day. Someone somewhere has a chart comparing daily changes to weekly or monthly changes.

If you were to do a water change after you fed your fish you could get the uneaten food out. Im not sure that would be worth the effort though. I will stick with my monthly changes.

I do a weekly 10% change on my two tanks. Mostly because its cheaper than dosing additives and keeps my parameters more consistant.
I really like the thought of doing a constant water replacement ... now I have to revise the plans for that next build :laugh:
