I am getting close to buying a Skimmer for my to tank, about 475 gallon fish only setup.
My er rc500 needs pumps so I wanted to get something different. I like that Raphael cone 300 with its dual red dragon pumps. But for similar money I found a er rc1000 (12 in dia by 48 in tall) which was built around a dart NW pump.
I like the idea of a dart since thy are cheaper to replace but which Skimmers should I do? Er would be used and maybe $250 more then the new alpha cone 300

RC1000 :) How much is the skimmer with the dart? I know of someone with a similar one hehe.
Seriously though. I think the RC1000 is a great performer, but I have no experience with the other skimmer.

go with the rc 1000

That's the way I am leaning to, the RC-1000.......
TechGuy, about $200 more then what you wanted for the ER at the shop, but this (I think) is a bigger model & doesn't have a leaking pump :) Doesn't the one at your shop have 3 pumps & is 42in tall or something like that? Jeff at ER made the skimmer for R&D & it never made it into production. He stated the stock Reeflo NW & venturi are complete junk so he is suppose to have one he made that goes with it.

Yeah the dart sounds alot better. Ours has 4 pumps. It quit leaking, well kinda. Salt creep sealed it lol. The height was roughly 42ish.

I kinda like the idea of one external pump. Cheaper to replace if it does fail & I figure darts are easy to find.
At 42in tall.... no clue which model the shop has. The RC-1000 is 48in tall & the RC-750 is 36in tall
Looks like the 750 can be purchased in 3 or 4 pump configuration & the rc-1000 is 4 or 5 pump's
I think I will do the 1000, I think I can get it to fit next to my tank
