Hello...
« on: May 08, 2011, 14:42:55 »
Hello,
I'm somewhat new to the ways of reef keeping. Any tricks & tips anyone can offer will be greatly appreciated. I'm very interested in volunteering my time for any event as long as I am learning.
I will soon begin my more permanent tank setup (which is very exciting for me).
Thank you for everything that you all do!

tips and tricks.... hmmm. If you are going to do it, do it right the first time lol. Well i would possibly say, find what it is that you are wanting to keep, research it, then research it some more. As far as getting a tank setup, look at all the different filtering equipment like an ATS (algae Turf Scrubber), look into LEDs vs whatever type of light you were planning/thinking of getting. Can be more expensive, but save you money within a couple years. Though there are some people on here that dont even use heaters because of their MH's produce enough heat so thats an offset for energy. I would def just read what you can and dont rush into things, or you might kick yourself in the butt.

I would also add that there are many different type of reef you can keep and some are less expensive than others.

One example is sps vs softies and lps (in most cases).

IMO a SPS ( colored sticks  ) tank is more of a hot rod system requiring more of everything.

Where as a Softie\LPS tank requires less $$ and allows you to learn about reef keeping and can be turned into a SPS tank when you have more experience with all the little things.

Again ..this is only my opinion.

I would say the main thing is take your time and dont rush

And welcome to the club !!!!  ;D
