Bird of paradise died in one day?
« on: October 07, 2011, 21:22:41 »
I came home from work and my bird of paradise was knocked over onto a paly colony. I flipped it over and a few of the tips were white and bare, so i cut them off and fragged a few smaller one's just in case. Today when i got home the entire thing was dead and white with the skin hanging off of it. The frags I cut off are fine as well as everything else in the tank. Any ideas?

I forgot to add that last week my torch had a white slime around the base of both heads and the next day the entire thing was gone. Not sure if it's related or not.

Palys can be very toxic and even though it only seemed like it affected a small portion, it probably had stung the whole coral. Just took it a while. I also have some extra BOPs if you need some.

Have you checked you alk., mag., calcium? Is this the first SPS you have added? Did you dip it? Hows your lighting?

Everything tested good, I have a few sps that are fine it's just this one that was fine for a few months until it landed on the palys overnight.
