I would not focus on just one.  I think it comes down to features and price.   At Home I have
LG and Samsung

At work I installed a group of Sharp Aquos TV's

If the TV has the features you want for the right price I don't think you would go wrong with any of them......well maybe not RCA

The only thing I am looking for is big, with a nice pic lol. This will be used mainly for PS3 and movies. I don't do the internet thing on my tv. I think sharp has a 60" LCD for right under 1000 right now. Just wanted to see if there are brand to stay away form or lean towards.

I just recently purchased a Samsung 55" 3D from Best Buy.  I hadn't planned on getting a 3D but I got a great deal.  Several things I found in my research was that many of the experts recommended waiting until late February or so (when the new models come out) and the "old models" will be discounted.
I referenced cnet.com and it was extremely helpful.  I had a plasma samsung and was very pleased and so far have been very happy with the new tv.
Through several months of research I felt that (for the brands I was looking at)  Best Buy had the better deals.  If you are looking at them I would check their "deals of the day,"  sometimes they have noticeable discounts available.

Good Luck
Thanks and God Bless,
John

I have 3 of the old Sharp Aquos line running at work.   1 in a conference room, and 2 out on the shop floor that are running 24/7 for over a year.   They are LED.   No problems out of them.  Nice TV's.

Why stop at 60".......

Do you care how big/thick the TV is?  If not some TV's that are hard to beat is Mitsubishi's DLP's.  They aren't wafer thin like some of the LCD/Plasma/etc TV however you get a great TV for the money.  My HT uses one of their Diamond TV's, a 73in but it's around +15 inches thick which isn't a big deal for me since that's about where my speakers & amps/components sit.  They have a 92in version that my wife wants.... it's fricken HUGE

A month or so ago I purchased a Samsung 8000 series TV, it's just a 55 but for the bedroom.  The TV does look great, has 3D & all of that however the jury is still out on which TV I like more, I think the DLP has better colors/detail, but this TV still looks GREAT!

We have a Mitsubishi 60in DLP for the kids room, again goes back to size if you can deal with a little depth these are great TV's

My wife's mom/stepdad has a 2yr old LG TV, they purchased the POS LG surround speakers & all that stuff.  The HDMI input/output all are completely dead..... they aren't very happy & state they will never buy LG again

Wife's brother we visited a few months back up in Green Bay.  I mentioned to them what that white dot was on their Samsung TV..... they didn't see it until I mentioned it.... a few months later there are over 20 bad spots on the TV.  Samsung has recalled their TV even though it's I think 4 years old.

I think all the better known brands are solid performers & either one can last 10 years trouble free or fall apart after a year.   I think it's more about what you like the looks of the best.

I have a few tvs throughout the house, but I have to say I really like my Mitsubushi DLP I have a diamond series aswell... The picture is flawless, and has been a great TV, especially for the money, though I bought mine when they were a bit more expensive, they have really come down in price....

I have done a few side by side comparisons and the dlp always catches my eye more so than the others... but not to say others may like something else... I think dlp is frowned upon by alot simply because it isn't "slim" and you can't hang it on the wall... and i think alot of people see a 3000+ lcd and automatically assume the dlp is junk because it is big like older projection units and doesn't cost as much as the lcd's... Even though my dlp is 73" it is super light

I had an LG that completely crapped out on me... Had green pixels on the screen right out of the box, took it back, got another, same thing... took it back, they basically told me to deal with it as a certain % of bad pixels is expected... Ended up getting a samsung instead, has worked great since...

A buddy of mine just got like a 80" sharp aquos or whatever the heck it is called flat screen... and we weren't impressed at all, really bad picture quality for the $$ IMO, he took it back and got a DLP like mine, loves it.... Though I should add he really only plays games and watches movies, and he may have just calibrated it wrong or not at all, but it would skip and blur with almost every game and the movies didn't look any different than any of the other comparable high end tv's.

yea.... I have also heard the sharp aquos TV's are complete junk.... the bigger the worse they look

HH Gregg sells the DLP's however I believe only the cheap line, not the 800 series or whatever the better line is called.  73, 82 & 92 I believe are their sizes

Hum well wall mount was a big part of what I was wanting to do with this. I will look at them anyway and maybe look into building a nice stand for it.

I would vote mitsubishi, but you didn't list it as an option... so i will default to samsung... their dlp unit is nice and my flat screen is good aswell...

Depending on your wall you may be able to get away with still mounting it up high or in the wall... They are extremely light.. I will say lighter than their lcd counterparts... they aren't like the old projection units at all... my daughter could probably pick up one end of it if she tried.

The only down side to a lcd vs dlp of the size is the viewing angle... I would have went larger on my 73" but to really get the best viewing quality I was advised by several people that 73" was the biggest i wanted to go for the room size I was putting it in.

Having just gotten another one I must say get a Samsung "smart TV" series. Darn thing is AWESOME all the way around. even hooks up to my cell and plays movie files from my media server.

Pic is fantastic. I dont need 3D with this thing as it has such depth even my old Star trek Voyager shows look as if they were shot "live"

Cant say enough about it

I don't trust consumer reports for anything except reliability data.  Never been a fan of how they test stuff and what they like.  Bose is a example..... they have always rated their stuff almost always at the top and its some if the most over priced and over rated speaker's ever made.  Junk if you ask me

I would go to a audio/video forum for info.  Home theatre shack, videogon etc are good informative sites.  Audiogon has helped me with some stereo stuff.......

If you want to compare a Samsung 8000 series 55 to my 5yr old Mitsubishi  dlp you are welcome to stop by and watch/compare.
