Running carbon in my system
« on: December 30, 2012, 11:46:48 »
Hello, I have read (online, so who knows how accurate) that I should run carbon in my system to combat the toxins released by my corals? I just added some LPS corals yesterday.

Yeah it's good to run in small amounts. I wouldn't put in more than 1/2 cups per 50 gallons though. Are you using a media reactor or just throwing a media bag into the sump?

I only use it when my water starts to get that fishy smell.  I personally feel it's not needed to run continually, but you do benefit from running it on occasion.  I always have it on hand to drop in if something looks like the tank is taking a turn for the south, whether it be contamination, toxins, whatever, but I do not run it full time.

Ive always ran carbon even when I had fresh water set-ups.  I throw some in a bag and it is in my sump.  Keeps the water crystal clear.  seems to help?
