9' acrylic?
« on: July 15, 2013, 10:46:25 »
I want to replace two 4' tanks in basement for a single 9 foot long tank. Does anyone know if sheets can be purchased that long or would I have to seam it?

Acrylic can be pretty much as long as you want.... Just costs a lost more when it gets long

My tank is 10ft long, the price between a 8 ft and 10 ft tank wasn't very much, 20% increase if I recall..... Going from 10 to 12 ft the tank tripled in price :(

Do you have a place to get it?  A friends makes tanks and sumps in Columbus, I can get the name of whoever he gets his stuff from

I hope so if I can raise the funds to do it.

Didn't realize he responded to my email on acrylic...... Tis is a copy of his reply

I get acrylic from Ain in SW Columbus, but I used Joey's backup account (they don't give us great pricing).  Joey
used to use E&T Plastics in Akron for most of his stock.

Acrylic comes in 8', 10', 12', &14.5' lengths.  10' sheets are NOT cheap!  If he wanted to do just 8', I have a sheet of 1/2" here now.

For a 9' tank you would need 3 9' pieces. You could scab bracing for top & side wouldn't be hard to get.

Based on the small amount of acrylic it may be be most economical to get locally at Meijers Plastic. Viggen did he happen to mention the cost of an 8' vs 10' sheet?

What type of acrylic is best to use. They have a bunch of different kinds here http://www.meyerplastics.com/

No, I copied his email.... No prices.....

Its been so long since I messed with the stuff that I forget what is what.  Better acrylic will be less prone to scratching and also easier to work with.  But I forget what is what..... I think acrylite gp

What dimensions do you think the tank would be?

After a bit more research on types and cost I realized the investment is out of reach. I had no idea it was so expensive for a sheet of acrylic. It is double what I had thought. http://www.eplastics.com/Plastic?search=ACRYCLR0.500

Yea..... The stuff isn't cheap which is why 8ft would save a bunch of money.

When we pay more for gas for our cars..... Acrylic also goes up :(

What about good old fashion glass? Would be a fraction of the cost & would be a lot easier to put together.
