A friend of mine is ordering fish from a wholesaler he started a account with when he did a large aquarium install in Atlanta.  He just sent me the price list incase I wanted anything.......

Clarion angel $1995
Black tang small $450

I am not going to order anything but those two fish kinda caught my eye

Any gem tangs?
A Indonesian fisherman once stated if we blow up the coral reef we have no future...... But if we do not we no way to feed my family now...... How sad the circumstances are today that ruin the opportunity of the future!

That's actually a bit high for the black, compared to SDC and ERI, when they get em.

Just goes to show the overhead and profit that gets tacked on for "rare"* fish.

*Some "rare" fish aren't rare in their native habitat, just rare in the trade.

They are referring to wholesale prices, not an apple to apple comparison. They always pay shipping have a large minimum purchase requirement, automatic buyer loss for dead fish up to certain percentage etc.... It is a mark up but not as much as it appears on the surface.

yes like stated thats wholesale.  many times you can add 30% or so to cover shipping charges when purchased from wholesaler.  Like stated some (like Quality Marina) have $1,000+ min order plus charge box fees, heat pack fees and the list goes on.

some wholesalers will put fish on sale thus purples can go in the $40-50 area however like stated shipping/fees are additional.  They also do not usually have much warranty, many times they will not cover a dead fish even if it arrives that way unless 20+% of the fish die.

yea crazy what some places can get away with charging for those rare fish as well as the variation between prices on normal fish.  Most of what I saw price wise from this wholesaler (SunPet) I wasn't to impressed with in the cost department.
