Safest angelfish in an acro tank?
« on: January 12, 2014, 22:57:03 »
Got a flame in mine with no problems....... Any other good choices? Looking at getting a golden Pygmy angel...... Not the large golden angels.....
A Indonesian fisherman once stated if we blow up the coral reef we have no future...... But if we do not we no way to feed my family now...... How sad the circumstances are today that ruin the opportunity of the future!

I have kept a coral beauty since I have had my tank up. never had a problem, but that is just my experience. I also have seen flames and coral beauties kept together several times, in larger tanks.

I love a potters angel..... Also I have had a couple and to me one of the prettiest of the Pygmy angels.... Of coarse my flame.... On of my absolute favorites of all angels.... Which he is not a Pygmy or reef safe is a flag fin angels... Bright yellow with blue lips! I think I am going to try a golden Pygmy...., big risk..... Especially when they are 120.00...... Only 1.5" long and is a very shy  fish which could make it a threat of starvation due to the other hoggers in my tank..... What is your take?

I have a Emperor in my SPS tank with very little problems. I just keep him well fed.

I got him as a juvenile, and he's now adult.

I agree coral beauties are the only ones i have had not nip lps and such.  I had a lemonpeel for a month or so that i had to trade as he was eating my acans. The potters dont seem to ship very well and i cant ever find a healthy one thats eating.

I have a golden angle in QT now. It is very very shy still after 3 weeks. She is starting to leave her pvc pipe a little more but as soon as she sees me she swims and hides. I have her eating live brine. I am not going to move her to the main tank until she is eating strong to help prevent and coral temptation damage.

I currently have a potters and an almost solid blue coral beauty. Both behave in my reef, but i do feed heavy.

Oh really? Think they are a decent ways away from me.  I also dont know if i want to risk another dwarf angel picking at corals.

Interesting info in this month's RKM Tank of the Month.

We keep several species of “questionable selections” in our display. We find that many fish and inverts labeled “non-reef-safe” can be effectively kept by simply paying attention to their needs and behaviors and managing accordingly. Many hobbyists feel that coral-nippers are unwelcome in the SPS display. On the contrary, we find that healthy, thriving SPS can easily tolerate the occasional Angelfish plucking, and that actually promotes vigorous SPS growth. Another important aspect of long-term SPS health is the cultivation of commensal crabs. We find that even some of the “big and hairy” crabs often shunned by some can be friends of large coral colonies, by keeping detritus and pests out, and stimulating the coral with their frequent grooming and other activities.

Several years ago I had a flame angle that didn't bother any coral, then suddenly it decided to eat acans.  I have been contemplating adding a coral beauty but don't want to risk losing any coral.
