White slime on clear tubing?
« on: June 09, 2014, 11:42:03 »
I upgraded the stock pumps on a JBJ nano and the stock tubes from the pump were too short.  I bought some 1/2" clear plastic tube from Home Depot, after being submerged less than a week the outer surface is covered in white-ish slime that flakes off when disturbed.

Searching online I see this complaint sometimes with suction cups and "some cheap tubes"?  Any help what this is, can I wipe off or will it keep coming back, is the slime dangerous to the livestock?

The stock tubes were brown in color.  If I buy tubing from a LFS is this less likely to happen?

As far as I know, it shouldn't hurt anything. Everything gets covered with something in a tank, lol
