Acrylic stand?
« on: June 10, 2014, 20:43:28 »
Anyone ever see or try to build an acrylic tank stand? I'm thinking of a custom stand for an upcoming build.

Do you mean a stand made out of acrylic or a stand to hold a acrylic tank?

A stand made out of acrylic. The tank is acrylic. And it would really be cool to have the sump built into the stand.

Most of the acrylic stands I have seen over the years were made out of black acrylic.  Most would use a wood frame then just finished in acrylic.  Smaller tank stand were made 100% of acrylic......

Ever seen a DIY one? Or a custom one? I have only seen one. But didn't give it a good look over.

custom

They were all installed at dr's offices etc

None had the filtration built as part of the stand

Good and bad with going that route.  To me the biggest negative is if for so,e reason the sump leaks or needs to be removed for any reason..... The aquarium would need to be moved to do so.

That's true. Could just make it so it looks as if it's all one unit. But the sump could be drained and slid out if needed.

if you are doing clear acrylic you need to use some of the new colored pvc pipe to give it some character!!!
Firefighting:  How hard can it be?  You just put the wet stuff on the red stuff right?

Either clear or smoke. But the idea is to see everything or almost everything. I still have to have the apex, reactors, dosing pumps ect under there. But if it's all planned out right it can still look good.

I'm with you on the colored pipe. Anything but red.

That could look really cool!

Be a pita keeping all the inside clean though

Yea I was talking with another member on the phone about that very thing. But there's really not going to be anything easy about this one. But I think it will be worth it. I am going to start drawing something up. I have 2 different ideas in mind. My drawings won't be pretty, but you'll get the point, I hope.
