Feeding plate corals
« on: August 12, 2015, 10:46:25 »
Is there special attention needed for plate corals? I have a really nice piece and it is doing well, but not as well as it did a month or so ago, want to make sure I'm not under-feeding it. Right now I just feed frozen pods to everything in addition to my calcium reactor.

I always squirt some food towards my plate when feeding.  I'm sure they don't need fed everyday but he doesn't seem to mind... ;)

I have mine in a place where they naturally catch pellets and flakes but I also spot every now and then.

When you spot, do you feed directly in the mouths, if so, do you do all of them or a certain ones, or do you give it a general "directional" feeding?

Thanks!

I just squirt whatever food I am using onto the coral with a turkey baster. I do not put it right on the mouth but you surely could.

Plate corals will eat just about anything! Silversides, krill, small fish. Pretty much anything they can fit in their mouth and their mouth gets pretty large, probably around 1/4 or more the diameter of the plate.
