Plumbing Question?
« on: September 23, 2007, 16:16:12 »
Hello all I have a question about my sump plumbing that I know I have probably asked before. What size should the piping be? If I remember correctly the overflow should be 1 inch, and the return should be 3/4 inch is this right? Also when plumbing the overflow (which is an external) is it recommended to plumb a stand pipe into it? I do want it to be as quiet as possible. All suggestions are welcome. God bless.

I would install a ball valve on each end then it wont matter what size you use.  you can control the intake and output.

Stand pipe some people love some people have no luck with it.  I would say at least try it

I wouldn't restrict the overflow.

I agree you can use a stockman stand pipe to reduce the noise of the overflow.

If you dont please be sure you have a pump that will for sure out preform your overflow.

I think I will at least try the standpipe idea. My pump and overflow are almost rated at the same flow. Thanks for the help everybody. Like I said I have had a sump setup before I just couldn't remember some of the basic principles. Thanks again, and God bless.

Actually the other way around. If you have it plumbed right the overflow will only flow what the pump pumps back up.

No problem, Matt. I know you're a little rusty.

I was thinking about plumbing the overflow end but that would be on a drilled overflow so y ou could control the noise by raising the waterlevel in the overfow.  but if you did that on over the back overflow you would flood it.
