New from Springboro
« on: September 28, 2015, 12:24:55 »
Hello everyone,

New empty nester, new to reefing......

I have been researching, learning, studying, a lot over the last few month and have made the plunge.

Made my first purchases last night from Marine depot. :)

Starting out with nothing, so I gotta get everything :(

I came across this forum by doing a google search......It's great to know there is local help.

I am also learning that there are quite a few places where I can do business as well.

Anyway, Here is what I have purchased so far (last night)

IM 30L tank and stand

IM ghost skimmer and minimax media reactor

2 spin streams

2 Jager 75w heaters

2 IM filter socks.

Next month I plan on getting an RO/DI

IM media caddy

Maxspect razor 27"

rock, sand, testing stuff, salt.

I'm looking forward to getting some help from this group, perhaps even getting to meet some of you some day.

I have been to Gerbers a couple times to look around when I was contemplating doing this or not. I'm looking forward to making some purchases there once my tank is up and running.

That's a long intro, hope no one fell asleep

i personal wouldnt go through gerbers thats just me. i would go through lazylivin aka lazyfrag house. nothing wrong with gerbers but they can be a bit pricey, and if you get into corals his coral are by fare the best stuff around. welcome to the addiction  :)

Gerbers is a good solid business... But I completely agree with jfishwild. lazylivin is and has been a go to guy. Simply the best

Welcome I grew up in Springboro. There is a ton of knowledge here with these guys. Lazylivin is a stand up guy and I've had good luck at aquarium artisans if you go south. These guys can give you some solid advice starting off and save you grief and money in the long run.

Welcome.  Still feel like a new reefer with my first 19 month old SW tank but man do you learn a lot in those first 12.  I'm in Springboro too if you have any emergency needs.

Thanks H2Ohio, I'm sure I will have a lot of questions and it's good to know someone is nearby. Thanks again!

Welcome to the group!

I'm actually running IM's 20 gallon with the spin streams on it. I have really enjoyed the tank so far, but I did find that I needed a little more current in the tank, so I put in a Hydor Nano. How are you liking the filter socks? I have been debating on those; however, I don't think I could get the spouse approval to throw them into the washing machine.

Hello Grymtooth, I only have the tank and stand setup so far.  I will be getting the rest of all I need by the end of the month.  I hope to have it cycling by the end of the month. As the IM 30L is 36" long, I am thinking about the maxspect gyre 130 for flow. (smallest one). I got 2 filter socks and will be washing them with rags and not everyday clothes :)

No problems :) I would agree with washing with rags only, but I still don't think I could get that to pass, as it would still be "fish germs inside my washing machine" lol regardless how much bleach I would use.
