Free welks- 5 of them
« on: January 17, 2016, 09:21:59 »
I think I got duped yesterday at the frag swap yesterday. I was sold these as being fighting conchs. I think they are some kind of welk. If they are welks they are carnivorous and not reef safe. I guess I learned a lesson to do my own research and not believe what you are told by someone trying to sell you something. I would gladly trade all these for a fighting conch if someone has one, if not they are free.

Seafan reef products sold them to me. They are either Whelks or crown conchs. Both of which are carnivorous. He suggested I needed 10 of them for a 28 gallon nano. I ended up buying 5. I'm going to call him and give him a chance to make it right. I was a little panicked this morning to find dead snail shells from my CUC on the sand bed.

I just got back from his place. I have to say he did make it right. He got them from his supplier as fighting conch, so I can't really fault him. I do respect him and his willingness to make up for the mistake. We did agree they weren't fighting conchs. These are not longer available.

They were for sure mud welks, I looked at them yesterday at the swap. Was going to buy some myself, glad I didn't.

I also discovered the issue - unfortunately not before one of the "conchs" ate a very nice blue maxima I've had for quite some time.

I am now spending my time trying to round up the others, usually as they are eating some other meaty treat, to see how they like the Ohio snow...
