Tired of pH test kits?
« on: April 20, 2007, 23:02:43 »
I recently purchased a hand held electronic pH device on ebay for $20. It is called the pH600 and is made by Milwaukee. Chris (cbell) let me borrow his for a few weeks when I just started using a calcium reactor and I couldn't believe how easy it is to use....Just dip and read your pH results in seconds on a digital display.

If interested, just do a search on ebay for pH600. Most "dip & read" electronic pH testers go for $60 + via mail order. For $20 plus shipping, this device is so much cheaper and easier to use than the standard pH test kits on the market.  Attached a picture below of the above product.

What about the cleaning and storage solutions they say you need?

Not sure about cleaning and storage. So far, I just rinse the pH pen with tap water and use the cap it comes with for storage. Listed the specs below:

"The Milwaukee pH 600 is designed for quick and reliable pH measurements.

Specifications
Range: 0.0 to 14.0 pH
Resolution: 0.1 pH
Accuracy: +/-.02 pH
Calibration: Manual 1 point
Battery Life: 700 hours approx"

Yes, it comes w/ 7.01 calibration fluid, but as cbell stated, you can also calibrate it with 7 and 10. Same result either way.

I've seen PH monitors that constantly monitor your PH on Ebay for around $40-$60 but I wasn't sure how often they needed calibrated so of the testers even include a plug so you don't have to replace the battery.
