Long Tentacle Anenome
« on: November 18, 2008, 20:42:48 »
For the past week, it has acted weird.  It went behind a rock, did not open up very much and stayed there until today.  I get home and he is on my overflow box and is getting stuck.  What should I do??

If you can reach it, you could turn off your pumps and try to gently remove it from the overflow and place it back into your display.  If it's attached, there are a few folks here who've posted some tips/tricks for getting them to release.  High flow directed at the foot, ice cubes, using a credit card to gently pry the foot loose, etc.  Other than that, I'm not sure what to suggest.  The 1 anenome that I tried to keep was very fond of the PH's, so.... it didn't make it long.

Sorry that I can't be more help... maybe someone else will chime in.

I had to remove my BTA because it split and I was selling it, and I used the ice cube method.  After 10-15 minutes and about 20 icecubes I got his foot up.

I've also heard that if you just rub the anemone's foot it will detach.

I got home from work today and I can't find him.  My fear is that he will soon go to anenome heaven.  He has not ate in 2 weeks.  I go him off by gently rubbing his foot.  Did not take that long.  Thanks for the suggestions.

This morning the anenome is on top of my mushroom coral.  Will it destroy the mushroom?  Hopefully he moves quick and I don't have to worry about it.  I did not have time to do anything this morning so I could get to wrok on time.

thats my main concern for anemones.  I would love to have one, and have clowns host in it, however with all of my other corals.. im not real sure about them moving around and hurting its tank mates.

A happy anemone will usually stay put. The Long Tentacles like to attach to Glass or Acrylic. Some say they dont like the LR because it is to abrasive (not sure if it is true). Try clearing a spot with no sand and placing a ring (couple inches tall) of PVC down with the anemone inside of it. Then when it gets healthy you can carefully remove the PVC.

I've never had problems wtih mine moving too much.  If they do I just redirect them back and they tend to stay.

How deep is your sand bed? I've heard that they like a couple of inches to plant their foot in and mine is planted happily in about three inches.

I believe he is dead, I saw something floating that resembles him.
