How can you tell if live rock is cured or uncured? Just wondering because I found some for $4.99 a lb. It is supposedly Figi live rock. Is this a good price or not?

Thats seems to be a normal price.  Not really a great deal.  If it's not local and you have to ship it it's a bad deal.  If it's coverd in coraline algae and other living things then it is a good deal.  I'm not really sure how to tell if it is cured or not.  Seems like you could just say it's cured.

If you are buying it locally you can smell to see if it is cured or not, un-cured rock will smell spoiled.

For that price, I would hope it's cured.  Uncured live rock will smell bad as Lazy said.  Look to see if there's signs of death on the rock as well (brown algae or slime).  If the rocks are brightly colored and have lots of life on them...it's a good price.  If you're looking for inexpensive rock, I would just buy some lace rock...and seed it with a rock from someone else's tank.
