Sump/Refug Setup
« on: February 28, 2011, 18:52:16 »
I would like to add a Sump/Refug. to my 29g.,  that I want to upgrade to a mixed Reef from a FOWLR. So, here is what I have...

New Wet/Dry with 3 compartments
New Sedra Power Head Pump KSP-5000 max flow 500gph
NewCPR Overflow box
New Remora AquaC Protein Skimmer with Mag-Drive 3 pump.

These items were actually to go onto our new 55g. tank, but I have decided when I upgrade. I want to go to a 6' long tank.
I want go biological this time with Macro algae, live rock, etc. So, will this pump move water too fast through this? How would you set it up?

I did find this thread with the same size tank.  http://www.nano-reef.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=119022
He said, he aimed for 80-100gph pump, to slow the flow. Right now, I am not sure my AquaC Protein Skimmer will fit in the cabinet, along with wet/dry tank. So, it may need to hang on the back.  I do wish, my tank was drilled as he did his, so I could eliminate the overflow box. This tank has been running for at least 4 yrs. So, if I go with a new drilled tank, it shouldn't take long to cycle, as I already have all of my seasoned LR.

Anyway, looking forward to your thoughts...

Teresa

Were you wanting to use the Wet/Dry as your Sump/Refug? If yes space will likely be pretty tight. Do you have a web link to the Wet/Dry you have so we can see if we can work with it? Is your Remora AquaC a hang on the back style or in sump style?

Joel gave Erin the Sump, so no brand name on it. I can try to get pictures of it. However, if you believe the Wet/Dry to be too tight. I can abandon that idea and go with a tank.

The Skimmer says Hang-on, but Erin said, they have hooked it up to the Wet/Dry. I'm thinking, I will need to use it as a Hang-on.  There just won't be a lot of room down in the cabinet, with sump. My inside dimensions in the cabinet are 25"L x 11 " W
