In everyones opinion, what are some of your favorite, more social crabs (non hermit sp. )?

i agree with micki, but i'd have to say if you have to choose one, go with one that you dont have to go see a doctor to get rid of

I have the ceramic/porceline crabs. They hard to get rid of, jk, anyways, they are great. I have a flower anemonie that they always hang out on. They screen the water for particles to eat. I paid 15 a piece for them, but they have been some great looking pieces to my aquarium.

the small crabs that we tend to keep in our tanks are by nature reclusive. Since they are close to the bottom of the food chain this is understandable :)

You could look into:

Pom Pom Crab: I always thought these were cool :) they carry little anemones around on the ends of their arms

Ok Ok Ok... I think scarlet crabs are cool. They aren't really out and about a lot.  I've heard others say decorater crabs are cool.  I've not see one up close and personal tough.

I had a decorator crab, they are cool, but only come out at night and hide during the day. So it wasnt all that fun having him except for the late night shocker of WTF IS THAT!!! lurking on the window in the dark while you are half asleep walking past it.

I have a green porcelain crab and it never comes out. not sure if their is a difference between the green and spotted ones other than the obvious. But I don't have an anemone, so maybe that's the key.

When you say hermit crabs don't come out... do you mean in general or just out of their shell? Cause my hermit crabs are out all day/night long.

I didn't say that hermits don't come out, I am looking for a mithrax? style of crab that isn't a hermit. I would like a halloween crab however. Can't seem to find them locally. maybe I'm just looking hard enough

Your may have already asked him, but I'm pretty sure Rich from Coral Ranch could get you one.

Unfortunetly, I have never met Rich, or been to his establishment. I plan on making the trip very soon. I just know that if I were to go I would want to buy more than inverts, and IMO my system isn't stable enough for anything else.

That could be the reason. I didnt have anemonies when i first got mine, but once i did, they took hold to it. They generally clinged onto the side of rocks but generally stayed inside the crevices. But now they are out all the time and i'm pretty sure its because the fish tend to stay away from the anemonie.

no problem! They really are great and like darin I also have them on a flower rock anemone. Sometimes he ventures onto my e.quadricolor but he seems content with the flower rock anemone. Another thing good to mention is that I also have 2 sexy shrimp and he does not bother them one bit.

Let us know what you go with, AND if your able to find those blue ones, they are sweet!

I plan on going/contacting coral ranch to see about special ordering some inverts. We'll see what we can come up with.
