Cleaner Kit
« on: March 25, 2012, 16:31:54 »
I'm looking to buy a cleaner kit (crabs/snails/etc..).  Any suggestions on where to go locally or on line to buy one at a reasonable price?

Check with some of our sponsors, they can probably help you out.

If you're going to buy one online, I'd highly recommend ReefCleaners.org (and they happen to be a sponsor). If you're buying locally, I'd probably get one from Coral Ranch or any of the other local sponsors. Just my 2 cents though as I like to support companies that are supporting us.

Plus one! Also, I had a very nice experience with infinite aquatics. Nice road trip and great selection/price/service.

Hmmm...why reefcleaners.org?  Their prices don't look all that great.  I can get 100 blue leg crabs and 100 astrea snails from Live Aquaria for 65$.  That same "package" at reef cleaners is well over $100.  Am I missing something? I don't even see packages there.  Everything is listed individually.

I got a clean up kit from reefcleaners. I emailed them with my tank specs and they quoted a package. Its was a very reasonable price.

Did you include the shipping charges from LiveAquaria? Looking at your link, selecting the "Add to Cart" button and then trying to Check Out, it adds $34.99 to the price for shipping which puts it up to $99.98. Most of the "Quick Crews" for larger tank sizes at ReefCleaners include shipping in the pricing. An equivalent "QuickCrew" from ReefCleaners --> http://reefcleaners.org/index.php?page=shop.product_details&flypage=flypage.tpl&product_id=308&category_id=20&option=com_virtuemart&Itemid=34 runs $83.06 (with shipping) and it includes 4 different types of snails. Most of us do not think that just 1 type of snail and 1 type of hermit makes a good cleanup crew. I believe you should have a variety of snails (and/or hermits if you want hermits) in your cleanup crew as specific snails take care of specific things. I.E. nassarius (spelling?) snails do a very good job on turning over sand so unless you're running bare bottom or you have other livestock to do that, you should have some in your tank.

Your best bet would be to call around to a few places and see what they recommend for your tank size and stocking. As with all my posts....just my 2 cents worth :-)

I agree with Jerry on the different types. When I emailed them, they ask several questions specific to your tank, then come up with a plan. Both of mine were less $ than their x amout per x gallon tank crew. Very happy with them.m

I have ordered from saltwaterfish.com before and had good luck. Any of their cleanup crews you get free shipping on your whole order. They have really good specials every now and again as well.

Boonjob is going to place an order next week through reefcleaners.org If you're interested in them it could save on shipping.  I've ordered from them before and have been more than happy with the quality!

ReefCleaners or Coral Ranch for sure.

If you get in on the Order for reef cleaners shipping drops dramatically as once we breach 250 collectively its all free shipping...

Rich out at coral ranch has a great selection, and good prices if you want to spare yourself the shipping and wait.

And only having one type of snail with the live aquaria is lamers.... You deff want the variety... the ceriths are amazing cleaners, easily out compete a turbo as they can get in more places, don't get stuck or flipped over as much, and the nassarius are a must have....
