Green Bubble Tip
« on: March 28, 2012, 19:27:41 »
My Anemone has gotten quite large.  It is getting ready to divide.  It has been in the same location for about 9 months now and has never moved but is now so large it is starting to kill adjacent corals.  I'm not fond of it any longer as my clowns have no idea what it is.

What can I do to get rid of it?

Dental explorer, perhaps a #11 scalpel...  just kidding.  Some shops like Gerber's will take it in exchange for store credit.  However, GBTA's are common, so don't expect loads of cash.  My opinion.

I'll give it away, I just want to know how others have handled situations like this.  I just want it gone.

Lazy likes anemones, maybe he'll take it. If no one else wants it I'll take it, but I would prefer someone else take it.

I've kept them under PC in the past. I think T5 are even stronger correct? If so, you're good to go. If not, that's very kind of you to pick it up for me! :)

Here is the question though.... How to get it out.  His foot is really deeply wedged in one of my largest rocks.  He has been there for over 9 months and the hole that his foot is in is pretty deep.

Hmmmmm, Can the rock be moved?  If you flip the rock over he may not be happy and move on his own.  Another thought, point a power head directly at it and he will become frustrated and move.  Other than that, I have no idea.

Finding a way to shade the light over top of him will work too.
As they both sank to the bottom of the river, the frog said "do you mind if I ask you something? You said there would be no logic in your stinging me. Why did you do it?" "It has nothing to do with logic," the drowning scorpion sadly replied. "It's just self destruction is my nature."

Nope...

I will try the power head.

Once he starts to move can I just pick him up by hand with a surgical glove on?

Yep.  Actually I don't even wear gloves but it's not a bad idea to do that.  :)

Some have used ice cube on foot to move them. But I would suggest ice cube made of tank water.

I like the covering light best or even turning lights off. Mine will move in a few hours when i go for lights out for couple days.

The problem with ice on the foot is, I'm guessing the foot is deep in the rock?  I've never had luck with it for that reason.  As for the light, I've left my lights off for 3 days at a time and my anemones never move.  In fact mine haven't moved in 6 years!  I've had some luck with the power head although it did take some time.  JMHO

You could run a small tube from a maxijet into the hole to run a strung current over the foot.  Might work- worked for us.

Yea, yea, Dad.... Will try that this weekend.  It requires a bit more logistics than I can perform right now.  Moving a powerhead took me all of 5 seconds.
