Good or Bad?
« on: February 02, 2012, 19:11:54 »
After a water change tonight i seen this guy on the back wall. I have never seen him before and after about 5 minutes he was back down the wall and disappeared. Just wondering if i should scoop him out the next time i see him or not.

Read up on WWD about Astrea stars... I had 100's but they only ever touched my algae, never bothered anything else... but there are some which eat corals, and some people have reported them as nuisances... Blazin couldn't have said it better, if you have seen 1 you have 100's...

In my personal experience with them, I say leave em, your gonna make a heck of a headache for your self trying to rid your tank of them, and they just aren't worth it.

There are different types of these, kind of like flatworms. Many won't do any harm, but some will. Most are grazers, but some like to munch certain types of coral, primarily SPS. I have a full mixed reef and don't see them messing with my coral. There is also speculation that they eat coralline. this I do believe since I usually see mine poking around my rock. I never really worried about it too much since I'm still scraping purple crusties off my glass. LOL.

I have had these for at least 8 years or more and the have never caused me any problem. The only time I have seen them on my sps is if one fell into something else and had tissue damage. Yes they can breed very fast. Seems like about 4 years ago I had a bloom and then the limited themselves and now I see a few around here and there.
