Whats up with my Zoas?
« on: November 21, 2012, 10:01:24 »
I woke up to find this on my electric green zoas...   I swear they werent like this the day before.  It almost looks like a sponge?

Any ideas?

I pulled the frag off the rock and picked off as much as I could, then dipped it in coral revive.  I used a toothpic to scrape off all the spongy stuff?  wierd how it over took it so fast.  Yea it a bad pic.  I get another one when the light come back on.

I've had yellow and peach colored sponges grow in and around my zoas without issue, in the past. They tend to come and go over time.

Generally, sponges are a good thing- more biological filtration!

I agree with Ashar, but I have seen sponges that grow so fast that they choke the zoas out.

I have at least 4 or 5 different types of sponges and they are a very natural and beneficial part of our mini eco systems. When I did have issues with them overgrowing my corals it was really a nutrient issue and not a sponge issue.
