Sargassum Trigger
« on: May 07, 2013, 09:26:21 »
Was wondering if anyone had any experience with one of
these. All I have read is they are one of the reef safe triggers.
Xanthichthys, along with Blue Throats and Crosshatch Triggers.
Also been reading that Pink Tails and Nigers are, not so sure I would
trust those.

Thanks.

I had one in my fowlr and he was great.  Very very shy for the first few months then he slowly became more outgoing and less shy, always following anyone who would walk into the room the tank is in.

Unfortunately I think my black trigger or more then likely my Sohal tang killed him.

I wouldn't do a Niger or pink tail in a reef unless the tank is very large.  Those triggers just get to big and get aggressive when they are 8 or so plus inches long.....

The tank is a 125. Will shy away from the Niger. I did read they get fairly large where
as the Sargassum, not so much.
Is my favorite fish though. (The Niger).

Yea, they can get pretty big and the majority who have very large Nigers state they are mean

Sargassum's even when fully grown should be a good fit for a 125g, they arent mean or hyper.... Blue jaw would also work......

I have been debating on adding a Niger to my tank, I want more then one trigger and I was hoping a sargassum and black trigger (my favorite trigger) would work which didn't.   Just saw Nigers on sale for $11 thus debating if I should give one a try..... Few other things caught my eye as well..... Thinking of attempting to catch my Sohal and put him in "time out" for a few months while I add new fish.
