Cold Cathode UVs?
« on: April 01, 2016, 14:16:28 »
So, I remembered a while back of using Cold Cathode UV lights in computer cases to show off colors more, and I was wondering, would cold cathode UVs benefit coral at all? Hurt corals? No difference? Just looking for more "pop" without spending another $300-400 on new lighting that I cannot afford at the moment.

These are kind of what I was looking at:

Thanks!

The blue lights are what really make corals fluoresce.  You could get a few blue LED strips inexpensively to supplement your current lighting to have that "pop".

Something like this would be cheap.

The UV spectrum can make the coral pop, but can also have sterilizing effect. Just be cautious.

I didn't see a wavelength in the spec. I added a couple 400 nm to my led arrays and noticed a difference, but I don't honk I would have been able to distinguish it from adding more blues.

Well, I found out that my cathodes were subjected to a cleaning frenzy and are no longer an option, so I guess that solves that question pretty quick.
