Hardware issues
« on: October 30, 2017, 19:10:39 »
Is it just me or does everything mechanical start breaking down after 8 months? In the last 3 weeks my return pump (Lifeguard Aquatics 4000) failed. Luckily I had a backup. Warranty replacement was a huge hassle. And tonight I come home and both my Aquamedic Ecodrift pumps were not working. The impeller shaft on 1 had heated and mushroomed the pin to the point that it didn’t want to spin. Repaired that one. Never figured out what the other ones problem was, but it’s working. Is this a typical timeframe that things start going out, or is it just me?

Probably just bad luck. There are some pumps that last a really long time. iwaki for example. I bought mine used.  The person I bought it from said it was running for 5 years. I was reluctant to buy it but he said they run forever. Glad I did. I’ve had it running since july 2010. That's 12 years non stop between his tank and mine. Crazy. I cleaned it once a few years back and it wasnt dirty inside then so i just leave it alone. It keeps going.

I have a pan world return pump that is like brians is the way it has run 24/7 for 10 years now and I also bought it used.  My vortec mp40's are all used going on 8+ years.
