Computer Question
« on: September 01, 2007, 11:07:31 »
I have a computer question.  When I try to look at pictures that I have sent to my e-mail I get a red X.  I can click on the picture and it will come up but I can't see the picture just on the e-mail.  This just started happening so I wonder if there is a setting somewhere that I need to adjust?  Thanks!

Which email?  Outlook, hotmail, gmail, yahoo?  Many of the online emails have settings that you can adjust. Don't remember about Outlook.

Yahoo.  It wasn't doing this last week and I haven't changed anything so I'm confused.

Its most likely yahoo.  All of the online emails change things up from time to time.

I don't have a yahoo account so I don't know.  You might not be able to.  Gmail is like that.  Everything comes as a text only email and then you click a link to "show all images".  These accounts are all free so its hard to do anything about it when they change the rules.  I'll check my wife's yahoo account and see if hers is doing the same thing.

Ok this is wierd.  I have 2 yahoo accounts.  1 show the pictures and the other only has red X.  What's up with that?

forward the email from one account to the other it may be the format of the particular emails that are causing the problem.  Just a guess though

I did that. In fact I sent the same e-mail with picture attachment back and forth between accounts.  It's fine on one account and red X on the other.  I even compared options between accounts and they are exactly the same.  It's too wierd.

I don't know if it helps, But IF it were me I would just get a free photobucket account, and upload the pics to there and try that.

sorry if i this doesn't help

Micki...

Yahoo recently started rolling out a newer version of their email service.  This has been in beta for quite a while and I've been using the beta version, with no issues, but I know that they have started rolling the new version out to all members.  I bet your pics are being blocked by some of the newer security "features".  Apparently, some web-users have still not learned that it's unsafe to click on links in email (when the sender is unknown), and some pics can really be links, so your email client is blocking them until you explicitly allow them.

Is the person sending you the pics in your contact/address book?  If not, add them and see if you can see the pics.  Also, there is sometimes a link in the header section which will allow you to "trust" the sender, or show images/links.  Do you see anything like that?

I don't see any link in the header at all.  All of the pictures are from people in my address book.  Some of them are even from one of my accounts to the other.  The pictures are mostly ones I've had in there for a while.  It stopps all of them old and new.  The wierd thing is that it only affects one account.  I even forwarded the same pictures to the OK account and they are fine there.

Sounds like it was probably a Yahoo server issue.

Yahoo has hundreds, probably thousands, of servers. Odds are that your accounts are on different servers.
