cleaning powerheads

So I know most people will take there powerheads out and run them in a vinegar solution. So what do you guys mix it with and how much. I usually just let them go until they stop running but I am gonna try and prolong the life of the ones I have now.

I just wing it on how much I put in. More gunk means more vinegar. I dry them off well before I put them back in hut if there is some left on the only thing it will do is ding the ph and on a tank your size I would say the affects are negligable. Vinegar is the original green cleaner :)

If I have a pump apart, and just want to clean the impeller, I use straight vinegar.

Otherwise, use as much as you want......the more you use, the faster it cleans.  I usually take a 5 gal bucket, put the powerhead in the bucket.  Fill with warm water to just about the point where the pump would suck air.  The start the pump and top off with vinegar.    Usually takes about a day, if the pump has a ton of coralline on the outside, after 3-4 hours, it has softened up, and I scrap off the excess.

I try to clean all of my pumps every 6 months or so to keep the coralline at bay. I use warm water and vinegar. How much vinegar depends on what i'm soaking and how much i have.

I use 1:1 ratio vinegar and water and let it soak over night
If you didn't know I'm kind of a big deal...

Giving this a try. I will see what it looks like tomorrow after work. Thanks
