I will try to get a pic up soon but they are small, anyway it looks like a little feather duster of some sort i think and is only about 1/8 of an inch in dia and 1/4 long, it is hollow in the center and the outer part looks spongy to me they are all white i first noticed them on the lr i used to cycle and now they are everywhere even the glass and the dims i gave for size would be the biggest one many others are the size of a pencil lead or smaller . I am hoping someone here knows what these are and if they are safe.

I have a few of these little guys in my tank.  Supposedly they are self-limiting, and dependent on silicates.  A RO/DI water source would eliminate silicates in top off water and make up water (I know you are going the tap water route right now).  If the population continues to explode, then you'll have to do something about the silicates, but other than that, they aren't really harmful (if they are, in fact, pineapple sponges).

Since I just converted over to RO/DI water (thanks to Russ at Buckeye Field Supply), I'll have to let you know how they progress in my tank.  It will be a few weeks/months until I can recover from the tap water I was using, so I can be the experiment.
