LED Information Needed
« on: August 29, 2010, 15:31:21 »
To the guys with LED or knowledgeable about it, I was looking online for a set and ran across this company:

http://www.sunbritelighting.com/Bs_NewsInfo.asp?Action=News&id=96

I called and was talking then he asked if I have skype.  Then did a remote demo and tour of the store that was incredible.  Remote camera that he walked around his facility with and was able to discuss in detail.   I was wondering if you say any of the infromation on this product online (anyone have any)?  your thoughts? concerns?

This is how I found them.

I would like to try and pick them a part to learn if this is what I want to invest with.  Sounds and looks really nice to me.  I would like your opinions.

I didnt see ANY specs on the website?... I Didnt watch every second of the video, but its didnt make a whole lot of sense.  Why would they even show 600 PAR on the sandbed and 1000PAR in the tank? That would bleach most corals I'd think.  Id want to know exactly what LEDs (Brand, Binning, & Wavelenght) they are running and how far they are overdriving them (Forward current mA).  I can make a cheap fixture that overdrives LEDs that can put out that kind of power (while killing the LEDs in a short period of time).... What is the proposed cost to get you something that will achieve +300 PAR on sandbed? was it a complete fixture? how are they driving the LEDs?

You also have to ask yourself, If these are so great, Why everyone use 2-3Watt Highpower LEDs (Cree's, etc)

Electrical Engineers do it on impulse, with faster rise times, with more power, and less resistance at higher frequencies, without shorts, until it Hertz

Looks like he is getting +300 PAR at about 50Watts at 24inchs.  Does that jive with Walltanks, jjoos, or other LED setups numbers?

Couple of things I notice.
- Still water surface.  This will greatly affect PAR when you move the water, like all of us SPSer's do.
- 90 small led's per foot.......can we say expensive to manufacture.  I've not seen pricing anywhere
- Like Cyber says.......is he over driving LED's for demo purposes.
- The numbers seem high for a little LED, its just a matter of the $ per area of the tank your trying to light.......

The differnce in LEDs Paul, is that this setup is using regular 5mm LEDs and not high output ones, SO it would take a TON to equal 1 Cree.  I had always heard that their intensity is lower so its much harder for them to penetrate for PAR at deep water.  Without specs of how many are running, what they are, and what they are being driven at, We have no idea...

If I remember right my 36 led light was 200 par at the sand at 24 in.
