Kenya Tree Overgrowth
« on: August 06, 2012, 09:29:35 »
I'm not sure how many have had this problem, but what do you do with excess Kenya tree that gets out of hand?  Of course in the beginning I thought it was great that a tree would spawn up over here then over there, but now it's to the point where the Mrs' thinks it's outta control.  I have some that has turned into a small forest in the front-center that I really want to clear out as it's started to gather some hair algae at the base... :(  I hate to just pitch it, but wasn't sure how others have dealt with this type of situation?

Just curious what others have done with softies that have gotten out of hand...

I used to love Kenya tree (one of my first corals LOL), but it got to the point where I would give it away or just throw it out. I did discover it works very well in a seahorse tank :)

I noticed that it is kind of invasive.  I had one, moved it out and now new ones are emerging where the old one once was.

I am experiencing the same thing. Had one and now aboit 6 of them. Along with an ever expanding forest of pulsing xenia. They look very cool because of the movement. Will be time to start trimming back pretty soon though. Might try trading them in at a lfs for store credit.

I didn't think about trading it in.  Ray I shot you a pm, but I hate throwing it away as it is living.  However I guess you could think of it as a weed then it doesn't hurt so much to flush it.. :S  haha...  It has spread a lot since I put the first little rock in with some on it.

Every time a kenya tree pops up in my tank, I frag it and trade it in at Gerber's.   I hate those things.
