Rock Formation Pictures
« on: March 02, 2011, 16:17:30 »
Hey Everyone,

I wanted to start a thread to see if people out there could post up pictures of their rock setups in their tanks?  I've got some flow issues, and I'm really leaning towards reworking all my rocks in my 65g and looking for some ideas.  I've been scouring the net today looking at pictures and I just don't understand the rock formations that are pretty much a mound how they can look so nice without some sort of nusciance algae on one side or the substrate?  Anyway I was just curious if people could post up some pictures of their setups.

TIA,
Mark

I use fiberglass rods, zip ties, and reef epoxy. I keep the rock off of the back wall in all my setups. This one is fairly new (about 2 days old to be exact lol) But I am hoping I dont have any issues. try to make the rock sit to were there are holes from bottom to top and not just front to back.

Here is a pic of my 26g when I first made the structure for it. I used coral pieces from a 5g tub I got from Joel when he shut down his previous location. Lots of thought and glue went into this one :)

Jo3y06 - how big is your tank?  I like the mound look, but how does the inside of the mound stay clean and free of debris?  I'd have to do 2 mounds with all the rock i have.

I have a 14g bio right now and thats the tank in the pic. I have also done a larger 40b but no pics of the rocks i did. If your worried about flow the best thing is to keep your rock at least 1" off of the back wall. If you can leave enough space to put a power head behind the rock thats best for flow threw the rock. IF you really keep the top of your water moving and keep your power heads close to middle or lower in back of tank on a wave maker you can create an updraft in the water colum. This is really what I rely on. Good surface motion, and strong surges. Another thing that helps is if you build a cone/pyramid. leave the middle hollow. any detritus or debris that falls there will be taken care of by your snails (nassarius are best for this) also its not a dead zone as long as you have some caves/holes going from front to back. Have fun with it and if you need help pm me I dont mind healping a fellow reefer.

No problem Ken and btw that has to be the most unique aqua-scape I have seen. You should post on RC thread above if you haven't already.
