Is something wrong with my Leather?
« on: October 16, 2011, 11:22:42 »
My Leather has looked like this for 2 days now. It's bent over.   Is something wrong with it?

I did move the one behind him to point up to get the film off the top of the water.  Maybe I'll point it back on him where it was.  He's still getting a lot of flow tho.   Picky little thing ...

I wouldn't move the power head yet, he will adjust to the water flow change.

Did some re-arranging of my rocks.  I was wondering if the Torch was stinging him.  Moved him away from the Torch, he is back upright now. So, not sure if it was the flow or what, but he looks much better.  Now, my question is, can brains touch each other or will they sting?  I have 2 that I didn't think were that close to each other until they expanded today and now they are touching. Almost overlapping a little.

They sure will, Brains can actually be pretty agressive with their tentacles... you will want to space em

It really depends on the size of the corals(larger ones may need more space, not always though)... You will probably want to space no less than 5-6" apart in all directions...the can sometimes becloser when they are smaller(not always)

These are the 2 in question.  Didn't know they were aggressive.

I can't see your pic atm... however here is some reading for ya.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brain_coral

check em out at night after the lights are out and watch for the sweeper tentacles... most are 3-4" long you can space accordingly to the longest tentacle you see...

These guys should also really be located in your substrate... rocks can cause abrasions to their soft tissue underside which can lead to infection and demise of the coral

Those are two different species and will sting each other. 4 to 5 inches between them sounds like good advice.

If you need the names to research them, one appears to be a trachyphyllia (aka welsophyllia) and the other could be a symphyllia or lobophyllia
