apex / neptune useres i am in heed of help please
« on: March 27, 2013, 13:08:44 »

remember the led system that our club buy purchased, my question is how do i get these units programmed to run on the seasonal charts allowing them to ramp up and down as well for morning, day and then night

am i needing a certain module?

i am new to the apex and love the led lighting from these units, i dont really want to have to purchase new lights as these are only a month old and the apex is a week old and im still trying to learn to program, which i must say is going pretty good right now

i looked through the forums on neptune systems and reef centrals netune forum and didnt see anything about these lights

thanks for the help in advance

The LED's that were part of the group buy are not dimming controllable as is.

You might be able to open the fixture up and replace the dimming pot with a apex interface.   I would talk to the guys at Marine Solutions as to what they might recommend.   The Apex uses a 0-10v dimming signal, so the LED driver has to accept a 0-10v signal

SEASONAL LIGHTING ADJUSTMENT
The AquaController Apex can simulate the varying lengths of daylight during the
seasons of the year based upon a typical tropical reef at 15° north latitude. The If
Sun command is used to turn outlets on and off that automatically adjust to
these seasonal adjustments throughout the year. An offset from the standard
time is provided so multiple lights can be cycled on and off in sequence. The
following commands could be used to control a light on a system:

Light1:
If Sun 000/000 Then ON

Light2:
If Sun 060/-045 Then ON

The first statement turns Light1 on at sunrise of the particular day based on the
settings in the Seasonal Table and off at sunset. Light2 turns on 60 minutes after
sunrise and turns off 45 minutes before sunset.

MOON LIGHTING
The AquaController Apex can be used to simulate the moonrise and moonset as
well as varying the intensity of the light source. The AquaController Apex
moonrise and moonset times match the true lunar cycle. An optional offset from
the standard moonrise and moonset is provided. Just like in the real world, the
moonrise and moonset are approximately 50 minutes later each day. So during a
new moon the moonrise is in the morning and the moonset is in the evening.
Typically during a full moon the moonrise time is in the evening and the moonset
time is in the morning. It is possible for the moon light to be on during day time
hours. The following Advanced Programming command can be used to control an
outlet for moon simulation:

If Moon 000/000 Then ON

This command will turn the outlet on at moonrise and off at moonset each day.

That will turn them on or off, but no ramping or intensity control.

Like Wall Tank mentioned,  opening the fixture up and replacing the dimming pot with an apex interface should work. However, don't open the fixtures yourself or it will void the 2 year warranty.  Contact Marine Solutions before doing that.

Great post Brian, very valuable info. there.

thanks for the help on the lighting issues guys,
i will be going to marine solutions tommarow night and talking to them
i am going to try and reprogram my lights and split them up into 2 seperate outlets when i get my pther ED8 tommarow
i understand the moon lighting, but would it be better to play with the blue first then the whites and maybe split them up again so 1 blue, then the other blue then a white, and the last white, then reverse the order using the oposite light to start backing out till their off??????? just a thought

but i would rather talk to MS to see what i can do first, i am only running my led's at 60% right now getting ready to turn them up a few points this weekend
