Need a little help with identification
« on: April 24, 2014, 10:36:56 »
Hello all. I'm not new to reefing but I did have about a ten year retirement. I have been set back up for almost a year now.  I decided to learn about every coral that I bring into the tank which I didn't do in the past. I gave identified everything but three sets of zoas/palys. If anyone has any idea what they are I would be in your debt. Sorry about the pics, k just have my phone to shoot pics with and the colors aren't that great.

1. Purple hornet
2. Goblin on fire
3. Might be nuclear green not 100%

Thanks Lazy.  The guy I got the hornets from thought they were but he was told they were not by a guy at the lfs.  I don't think the last ones are nuclear green. The body of the polyps is different than nuclear greens. I will move it later so I can get a better pic. Your help is much appreciated.

Hey Andy. I've been using that site and any other I come across to try to identify. My problem is all the different lighting and variation in the heads that has been throwing me off. That's why I finally resided myself to ask for help on here. Coralpedia is great and I appreciate the heads up

NP.  Also those might not be legit purple hornets.  Its hard to tell from your pic, but the skirt should alternate green and purple I believe.

They're definitely not alternating. The color in the pic isn't true either. The skirt and the ring are definitely bright yellow

Good catch on the alternating rings. That would separate them from the original Purple Hornets. Maybe a slightly different morph.
Here is an update to your pic with a bit of color correction.

Thanks for the help with the pic Lazy. Here is a better pic of the last set of zoas/palys that I listed earlier.  Hopefully this will help.

Are the last ones a mint green in color?  I think I have a huge colony of those as well.

That is a much better picture. Those one of the many morphs of Green Implosions.

And yes volcano they are a mint green/light teal depending on the lights. I just have 4 t-5 bulbs on my 120 right now and they are 2 coral plus and 2 actinic plus so my colors a little off but before my 10 k bulb got splashed they were still a mint green.
