I've always taken a razor blade to cut the flesh between the zoas then a hammer and chisle to break the rock.

Yes, where eye protection and gloves, can't stress that enough. I just take an xacto knife and cut the "root" from the mother colony. Then, believe it or not, the rock is usually pretty soft unless it's on granite, I take a single sided razor blade and actually cut the rock from underneath the mat. It cuts like butter. The dremel does work well, as do a hammer and chisel, but I find that you can get smaller frags with the blade and do not have to bust up the whole rock. If you are needing help, you can bring it in and I will give you a demo and/or frag some of it for you. Not a problem, I am actually doing some fragging today myself.  :)

+1 Hammer and chisel. Live rock is usually very porous so it is not hard to break!
