Is it battery operated?

It looks battery operated by the packaging but I bet a decent electrician could rewire it for a plug pretty quick if it works out.

for $20, I'd bet three 3watt Cree's would give you more par than that...

Electrical Engineers do it on impulse, with faster rise times, with more power, and less resistance at higher frequencies, without shorts, until it Hertz

I agree...  $20 doesn't buy a lot of PAR in LEDs.  To get a light equivalent to a 60W or more bulb costs on the order of $80-$110.

Efficient, no Mercury, and last a REALLY long time.  I still can't stomach the price though.

The $80 one looks much better to me. 6 LEDS at $7 plus driver, you could build that for around $50

The $100 bulbs looks like a huge rip off. it says only 7 watts... Not sure how much PAR they get out of 7 watts, but Six 3watt LEDs=18 Watts  ;)

menards has new fcl's that produce 200 watts and 6500 but use 43 watts. they have 5600K and 5800K. my setup is a flood light socket, and the 6500K wouldn't fit in it so i had to go with the 5800K, still puts out something like 90watts and burns 23 watts.

I'll take them all! Producing 200w while only consuming 43w, that circuit is running at over 200% eff, and generating energy :)

just to clear up the joke if you didn't get it, cfls are normally described in the amount of light that a normal incandescent of a wattage puts out.  So while only consuming 43w it is putting out nearly the same amount of light as a 200w incadescent bulb.

Does anyone run a cfl higher than 23w in fuge? I figure it's normally shallow enough not to need a ton of output

I agree.  I think the thing that makes the $100 bulb "special" is that it's shaped and has the light spread of a traditional 60W incandescent - a bit of trick with LEDs.

I've thought about buying a couple of the $80 ones for two recessed cans in a really high ceiling in my house, for when the bulbs currently there go.  It's a pain to get up there and would be nice to never have to do it again.  (Still haven't actually managed to convince myself to spend that kind of money for light bulbs though.)

I light my fuge with a single GE 23W cfl.  Works quite well.
