« on: June 25, 2010, 16:53:46 »
I currently use Red Sea Coral Pro but I am thinking of switching to Seachem reef salt

Anyone have any opinions on Seachem reef salt?

that is my choice of salts.  I have felt that I have gotten better polyp extension and color with this salt.  I could give you some when you get the light if you would like to try a water change or two with it.

The problem is you have to mix it in set batches unless you have VERY accurate scales to measure it out. It does seem very cool from the people I have spoken too.

I just bought a bucket of Seachem Reef Salt from Coral Ranch Friday.  I've been on RSCP for the past few months.  My tank looks great, but there have been a few things bothering me.  My biggest concern is that RSCP is harvested from the wild.  When in suspension on the large body of water that makes up the Red Sea, any anomalies are diluted, whereas at home, in my little 29g, a little too much silica or metal of some sort could be devastating.  I developed a nuisance algae problem while using RSCP, and it continued after many water changes and feeding as little as possible 2-3 times a week.

I'll keep you posted on my success with Seachem

In this hobby that is so true.  I don't think we, as the human race, can still quite wrap our heads around the plethora of anomalies that make one thing work extremely well for one person, and yet be the root cause of downfall for another.  You just have to test things out within the bounds of the resources you have at your disposal.  Once you find your sweet spot, stick with it.

The Sea chem Reef salt that i bought, about a year ago, mixed right out of the bucket at 580 cal, so be careful if you dont want your cal that high..
