Bare bottom yes. Detritus, waste, and just crap covering it. Algae grows on it, and I can't scrape it off, junk collects there. I did cut the brace and racks to be a perfect fit, and maximize space. So its hard to remove the racks to clean, plus they are full. No fun :( Anyone have 5lbs of sand lol.

Could you post a pic of this "dirty Tank" for informational purposes ?

Tech would you agree that your issue is not related to a bare bottom but more a design flaw in your setup trapping detritus and not keeping it in suspension to be picked up by the protein skimmer?

I have a pump high and low in the tank, you still get a dead spot.  Plus where I grow out my Rics, I don't want alot of current.....detritus builds there too.   But can easily get a siphon tube to get mine clean.

A bare bottom is easier to clean, no risk of a sand storm.  But sand is a better look......

Possibly. More likely. I have a TON of flow. The pump is returning 1500GPH to the tank, and pointed down. Its like the outlet of a hot tub. Alot of flow, under alot of pressure. But waste is still trapped under my racks. I will post pics for you guys in the next few days.

The reason I said not to? Most people have alot less flow than this tank, and I don't see it being any better for anyone else. I am always open to suggestions.

I guess the root of the problem is the fact that I can't get to the waste. I really should build a spray bar, and put it under the racks. And rely on Koralias for flow, rather than the return pump.

If you have detritus in your bare bottom setup then imagine how much detritus you would have in a sand bed! Typically sandbed aquariums have less flow so you would have more crap that you couldn't even see. this would just build up and build up.

Ignorance is Bliss but nitrates are a pain.

Nitrates aren't a pain when you don't have them :) But a dirty bottom is anything but bliss lol.

I went with a larger crushed coral on the bottom of my tank.  I love it.  I for softies I just cut them up and drop them in.  In a couple weeks they are attached to some gravel and I glue that straight to the plug.
Firefighting:  How hard can it be?  You just put the wet stuff on the red stuff right?
