Yeah I am not sure what I want... I already have a 1/8th savage... I may get a jato, I have always wanted one, but i wont be suprised If i break it within the first run

i think 1/5th would be sweet, but I am not sure if i would have enough places around me to really let it do it's thing... I have seen a few of these running in the desert and they look like a blast... but then again if i lived in the desert and for the cost of a 1/5th scale i could think of a few other things that would bring me more pleasure ;)

Well looks like a rain out today so no running of the trucks  :'( .  However a fresh coat of mud would look good on both of them lol.

I'll most likely end up with one of the King Motors Clones............someday.  I've got a 58" catamaran sitting here that I need to finish up as well.  I'm just not confident enough in my glassing skills to tackle that one.  It would be fun to beat the full scale boats at the lake.

And hmmmm.......sounds like a good idea.  May have to get my trucks out with the kids tomorrow.  Haven't been played with in the mud for a LONG time.  Cleaning 3 trucks takes a full evening.

went brushless, broke the dam thing every time I ran it.  Something about cartwheeling for 50ft always breaks parts.

Hence another reason I stuck with nitro, there sometimes a thing called too much speed (especially at rates that are almost uncontrollable.

What I've been really wanting is a 1/5th scale buggy/truck.  It's the amount of cash it takes to get one that my wife doesn't like.

I love the looks of the newer HPI 1/5th scale truck!

F the .21 ... .27 picco outlaw ;), just screams

You must take actual pit stops during a real comp race. Most decent .21 engines in the right application will pull right along with almost any big block (within reason) and not have to pit as often. This is a huge gain when racing the way I used to!
Oh, and my trug (with a .21 engine and a spec. fuel tank) would have smoked anything you can build! I'd lay money on it if I still had it!

lol.....I think I could build 2 brushless bashers for the price of that engine alone.

I still have the truck... you build something like what you had and we will see... I'll stand by my picco .27... I had a .21 and raced many of them... they didn't stand a chance... the .27 rev'd higher and made more at idle than most .21's did at 25% throttle. Even in a truck as heavy as my fully equipped savage it still made it scream.... My .21 never broke a single dogbone and I even ran on plastic... when I threw in the picco I had to replace 90% of the drivetrain on the truck from plastic to metal as the plastic just couldn't handle it. A finely tuned picco is just that much sweeter than a .21

nuff said mister ;)

And I'll say that the price of that engine is outrageous for what you are gettting... a BB will get you just as much if not more power at a fraction of the cost... no need to pay ungodly $$ to squeeze as much power out of a .21 as you can, when a  larger BB produces just as much almost bone stock. Bigger bore and stroke ;)

What does breaking a dog bone mean?

A dogbone on an rc car does what the CV joint on your car would(so to speak)... It allow power from the drivesaft or transaxle to pass into the tire(it's what turns the wheel)

They are called dogbones, because they look sorta like the stereotypical dog's bone.

http://www.bing.com/shopping/hpi-racing-dogbone-7x86mm/p/623A6C2CEB37C8EC5020?q=hpi+steel+dogbone&lpq=hpi%20steel%20dogbone&FORM=HURE

"breaking a dog bone" is not uncommon, and they are replaced quite frequently on most rc cars with them...(sorta about the same as a rotor would be for a heli)...

They can break for a number of reasons... the most apparent being the wheel not wanting to turn quick enough or at all... This creates a torque load on the dog bone that causes it to twist and warp or snap all together if nothing else gives first...

When using a high powered motor such as a good .21 or larger Big Block breaking these is quite common... they come in various different materials... plastic flexes the most but is also the easiest to warp or snap... harden steel being one of the hardest to break...

I ran hardened steel... and have twisted a few of these to where I can no longer use them... but they usualy don't bend or give at all... there are several reasons why not to use something as rigid as hardened steel though...

a hardened steel dog bone won't budge... so the power is going to break whatever is the weakest component in the system... power typically goes, flywheel, bell, clutch, tranny, shafts/dogs bones, wheel hubs(different cars and designs may vary). If your running steel and any of those items above are plastic they will surely break first, and most of them are more expensive than a dog bone... so most people choose to have the dog bones be the weaker material as they are easy to repair and not that expensive... When I went hardened steel dog bones I started shearing Flywheels, bell housing/gears, and wheel hubs. All those components are steel... so I went back to aluminum dogbones... and I would usually spin(warp/twist) one of them 1 every 2-3 times that I took the truck out.(but I am also hard on that truck)

a pack of aluminum dogbones are about 8 bucks for 2. or used to be.

I'd like to see these raced sometime. I saw some guys doing some RC planes a year ago, looked like fun till he crash landed it.

You referring to the cars or ariplanes/helis darin?

The cars are raced all the time locally, there is a good indoor dirt track locally, where you can go see them.

I used to dabble in some racing....had a RC10GT at the time.....wow that goes back a few years.   I did what I could on a college budget, which wasn't much at the time.  It was more for fun than trying to win.  The big banked left hand sweeper turn kicked my a** all the time.  either to slow and hit the inside, or to fast and traction roll right off the course.  Grrrrrrrrr.........

I'd like to see the cars/trucks raced sometime when i can get the time.

I was just saying that i saw some guys outside near huber last year flying some wicked planes and one crash landed and it looked like his plane exploded, just without the dramatic ball of flame.

I went to his shop today & now have a RC helicopter & a swimmer.... snagger the clown version

His shop is small.... VERY small with only a handfull of RC stuff.  He can get more but doesn't stock much.  Their original idea with the store was to sell model airplanes, they use to travel around this part of the coutry to air shows selling their stuff.  They still have a lot of those items but he branched into RC stuff maybe 2 years ago.

The helicopter he sells normally for $80 if I recall & man I suck at flying!
300g tub o fish
